Terms and Conditions

By entering into this hire agreement, you agree to the following terms and conditions on behalf of both yourself and your group, covering the number of bikes hired:

  • Hirers must be over the age of 18.
  • We advise that you do not ride without personal and third-party liability insurance.
  • Bikes must not be modified in any way (other than saddle adjustments) or with other equipment without prior approval from a Peaks & Dales member of staff.
  • You must not attempt to carry passengers on the bike, including the use of child seats.
  • You accept liability for any prosecution or claim arising from your actions and/or the actions of others in your group who are the intended users of the bikes during the period of hire.
  • To avoid the bike running out of charge during a ride we suggest that the battery is charged before each use.
  • You acknowledge that taking part in this activity involves certain inherent risks that might result in injury or loss to you, your party, or others. This can include, but is not limited to inclement weather, harsh conditions, navigational difficulties, collisions, hypothermia, illness, and accidents in remote places.
  • You accept sole responsibility for your own safety, and the safety of others in your group who are the intended users of the bikes.
  • You will not lend a bike to anyone who is not an intended user.
  • You will ensure the group acts with the safety of the public in mind.
  • If you leave a bike unattended, you will secure the bike using the lock provided.
  • To avoid theft of the battery you must ensure that the battery is removed every time the bike is left unattended. Battery can be stowed in the backpack provided.
  • You will only use roads and dedicated off-road cycle-paths or bridleways, abiding by the Highway Code at all times.
  • You will not ride the bikes through deep water.
  • You will not engage in racing, pace-making, time trials or speed testing. Bicycles will not be used in party games, stunt riding, jumping or any rough off-road riding.
  • You will bring the bike back by the time agreed.
  • You will report any problems or damage to Peaks & Dales.
  • You will notify us of any pre-existing medical conditions that may affect your ability to ride the bike safely.
  • You will dress appropriately, including footwear (i.e., no flip flops).
  • Although the use of helmets is not a legal requirement, we recommend them. Helmets are included in the price of hire.
  • You will be responsible for the bicycle and equipment and will be liable for any loss or damage to them.
  • You will check your bike for damage and scratches before you leave and note any pre-existing damage. Photos should be taken of the bike at the start and end of hire period.
  • Please note that we do not provide a breakdown service. Staff can be contacted during normal work hours between Monday and Friday to provide advice. In addition, we will provide you with names and contact numbers for some of Derbyshire’s local bikes shops and taxi services but depending on the location of your holiday destination we recommend you always travel with a mobile phone with online services to allow you to find the most suitable and closest aid possible should you need it.
